An entrepreneur is someone who comes up with a business plan and assumes the responsibility to make it a reality. This may mean putting in more work than someone else, it may mean spending more time on the details, or making wise investments if the business needs funding. They may see the possibilities in something that no one sees.

What characteristics do you need to be an entrepreneur? You must be willing to think of new possibilities when facing a problem. You need to be disciplined to work when you need to work and not be distracted by other things. You need to be able to effectively manage your time so as to have time for the business and time for the family. If you can run a household and a successful business, you could do anything you put your mind to. If you do not have the skills at bookkeeping or finances, you may need to hire some help. Are you good at knowing a good prospect for the job? Can you read people pretty well, and are your instincts good?

If you are considering becoming an entrepreneur then you most likely already possess the skills and abilities necessary for the job. A smart businessperson knows that getting help when it is needed will benefit their company and there is no shame in asking. If you need to, hire a partner or secretary to help you.

Understand that things may be slow in the beginning, but any good thing takes time to come to its full potential. Look at the most successful businesses today, the visionaries that started those companies may have started out on a shoestring budget, but had the ability to see it as something bigger.

The perfect example of this is The Microsoft Corporation. It started out of an idea in a person’s head named Bill Gates and became one of the largest companies in the world. He started out working in his garage, on a very limited budget. Computers were still in the infantry stages but look where we are now! Millions of people use computers every day and the internet makes it possible to reach customers around the world.

If you want to be the captain of your own ship and creator of your own destiny, then you have the entrepreneur spirit. All you need is a good business plan, a needed product or service and a good marketing strategy to make your business a success.
