Legitimate Network Marketing Opportunities Do Exist
There have been many horror stories about people getting taken for a ride, which makes it doubly hard to believe that there really are legitimate network marketing opportunities in existence. But the fact is that they do. The problem is that there are too many misconceptions about network marketing that new entrepreneurs (or even old ones) fail to see these opportunities when they arise, or they have different expectations than what this business model offers that they end up disillusioned and disappointed.
In a nutshell, legitimate network marketing opportunities are alternative means of building a business. They come with risks, like all businesses do, and they will take a certain amount of effort from you to establish.
The Online Market
The advantage that new network marketing opportunities have these days is that they make use of the biggest and most accessible social network available: the Internet. It has made many things possible and convenient. Try to remember what writing correspondences was like before emails came to be, and you will see how much easier keeping in touch is through the World Wide Web than through regular mail.
The Downside
Unfortunately, it has also made fraudulent claims of scams and schemes easier to advertise and to market. A little technological sleight of the hand from dark geniuses also makes it easy for some of them to get away with dodgy practices. With network marketing and pyramiding schemes having the same basic structure (uplines, downlines, and laterals), it is easy to mistake one for the other. So the question is if the two structures are the same, why is it that one is legal and the other is not?
Marketing and Not Recruitment
Here is the main difference between network marketing and Pyramid scams: legitimate networks make it mutually beneficial for everyone in the network to belong in it, and marketing a product is really the main focus. Pyramid scams will make money for you, only if you can recruit as many downlines as you can.
This is not to say that downlines are not important in network marketing because they are; it is just that recruiting them is not the main source of income of your network. Even if you stop recruiting at a certain point, as long as you can still sell your product, you will still be looking at a chance for profit. Neither should the bulk of your profit come from the sales of the people you recruited. It is not their job to make a living for you. But rather, it is, in fact, your job to help them make enough sales to stay in your network and be able to earn enough profits for themselves, as well.
