The Key to Understanding Network Marketing
The key to understanding network marketing is to forget all about what you think you know about it and start with a blank slate. It is undeniable that it can be difficult to not let what we bring with us affect our judgment of what network marketing is and what it is not. In fact, the very moment that you read anything about it, you will likely react from it.
Some reactions are quite legitimate, especially if you already have made your own research on the matter. But unless you have experienced network marketing, it is a hard concept to get a grip on. There are just too many things that seem related to it, but actually are not.
The Basics of Network Marketing
The first step to understanding network marketing is to know what it is and what it is not. It is actually just a descriptive term of a business structure that has a very distinctive characteristic: you need an interconnected web of people who will form the organization. The misunderstanding often arises from other people who use this structure for different means, such as dodgy Pyramid schemes or spurious Ponzi schemes.
The difference is that network marketing aims to benefit everyone who is part of the network and provide them what they need, while the latter will funnel the profits mostly to the top and leave the work for the people at the bottom.
Another similarity of network marketing to these illegal schemes is the need to find recruits to make a bigger network. But the similarity stops there. There will come a point when recruitment must stop, or your network will get too hard to handle without it being worth the trouble. If you are in a legitimate network, even if you reach this saturation point, your business can remain healthy because your profits will come from the sales of your products and services.
You also will not be earning off from the sweat of your downline’s back; the bulk of the profits that you will see will come from your own sales. In Pyramid schemes and the like, once you stop recruiting or when your downline stops growing, the profits will stop, as well.
Getting a Piece of the Action
It is really not difficult to get into network marketing because as what was mentioned earlier, there are people recruiting for you to get you into their networks. It is better to find one that is big enough to know what it is doing, but small enough to still be able to help you find your way around. You should also choose an organization with a product that you believe in and that you are interested in learning about. It is more than just making the sale; it is also about building relationships with people. And this means earning and keeping their trust.
