Creating the Proper Mindset for the Online Business Entrepreneur

There are so many people that would love to venture out on their own and be in charge of their life instead of letting someone else call all of the shots and be in charge of the future. In our minds, nothing beats being in charge of our own time and having the freedom and the money to do the things that we want to do.

So why is it that so many people have this desire but choose to remain in a situation where they have to do what pleases their boss not to mention watching out for what their boss will do to them?

The answer lies in rules that we had nothing to do with setting up from the very beginning and the fact that society places a strong emphasis on working a job until you retire. In the eyes of society and sometimes your loved ones, the idea of chasing your dream seems out of character with traditional values.

The other reason people tend to remain in the 9 to 5 grind is that they have yet to develop the mindset of an entrepreneur. You see, in order to achieve the freedom you desire by being able to make your business grow and develop multiple streams of income you must possess what is called an entrepreneurial mindset.

This is the mindset that business owners use to approach the world and settle for great instead of mediocre. It has to do with the concepts that Napoleon Hill discusses in his renowned book “Think and Grow Rich.” This book was first published in 1937 and has been re-published a zillion times and still is read by aspiring entrepreneurs to this very day. Why?

There is a reason that “Think and Grow Rich” has lasted for decades and the reason is because it contains the very principles that people need to live the lifestyle of their dreams. When Napoleon Hill wrote the book he sought out hundreds of successful people to discover their common traits of success. After all, success is not only about your own drive and determination it is also a result of following in the paths of others who have already achieved a proven blueprint for success. In other words, the attributes that make up an entrepreneurial mindset.

According to Napoleon Hill entrepreneurial mindset is all about desire, faith, creativity, careful planning, persistence, and decision making. In addition to that it is all about breaking down the barriers that exist in our subconscious that keep us from reaching our full potential and living the life of our dreams.

The subconscious refers to the beliefs that were instilled in us at the very beginning of our lives which create voices that keep us from achieving the things we want. Our subconscious is what runs in the background and controls us until we realize its presence and take the necessary measures to change the thought processes that we have been so well trained with early on in our lives.

So if you are not born with the entrepreneurial mindset do not be discouraged because if you have the will to achieve the lifestyle of your dreams you can change a lot of the thought processes that you were conditioned with at the beginning of your life. Although it requires constant vigilance on your part to shift your mindset, by following the blueprint of others who have become successful you can learn to develop the entrepreneurial mindset that is necessary for controlling your destiny and achieving the lifestyle you desire.
When you make the shift from employee to business owner, whether its an online, mlm or networking marketing business model, there are three things you must remember when it comes to following others who have become successful and that is to stay focused, pay attention to others that have already followed the path, and consistently take action.

If this all seems like a lot of work the fact of the matter is that it is a lot of work which is why everyone is not doing it. Instead it is much easier for them to stay stuck in their comfort zone despite the fact that they are not really happy in their current situation.

The Future Role of Social Networking and SEO

Social networking is becoming a way of life if you are going to build a successful business on the Internet.  Social networking has been quickly gaining momentum as one of the tools of choice for getting yourself established on the Internet and promoting your online business.

With the increased use of social networking as a tool for communication and business, the search engines have jumped on the bandwagon and are beginning to index social networking posts and tweets as well as video content from video marketing sites such as YouTube.

In addition to using all of the necessary SEO techniques to increase organic traffic to your website you must also integrate SEO with your social networking content that you use to promote yourself and your online business.

The Future of Social Media SEO

A few months ago Google reached an agreement with Twitter to display tweets from Twitter users in the search engine results instead of just a profile. This agreement represents a significant stride in the importance of social networking for promoting high quality content that is related to your area of expertise. Twitter only allows 140 characters however there is a lot of power behind a tweet if you know how to leverage it effectively for SEO.

If this agreement was reached with Twitter what this says for other social networking sites is that they will most likely follow the trend for using SEO to get posts indexed with Google and other search engines.  The search engines have already started recognizing video content so it only stands to reason that social networking will be the wave of the future for getting your content found in the search engine results.

Using SEO with Social Networking

So what do you have to do to jump on the wave with social networking SEO.  Well, the answer is quite simple because all you need to do is follow the SEO strategies that you use for your website and blog.  This includes using keywords strategically in your social networking posts and tweets and establish yourself as a brand across the social network on the Internet.

Like website and blog SEO strategies you must also be well versed in the SEO technique so you know how to avoid SEO mistakes such as keyword stuffing, link spamming, and other SEO mistakes that actually hurt your rankings with the search engines instead of improving them.

In addition to understanding SEO, it is also important to set up a framework of strategies like you do when you establish your website or blog.  An SEO social media strategy includes knowing your audience, establishing objectives for reaching your audience, coming up withy a strategy, and then choosing the social networking tools that you will need to accomplish the goal.  This means including a social media SEO strategy in your business and marketing plan. The strategy should contain a keyword focus that will integrate well with all of the social networking and video marketing sites you will use as tools for reaching your online audience and establishing your brand.  By optimizing your social media content you will attract a wider audience via the search engines and other Internet venues that attract a lot of organic traffic.

Niche Marketing: The Lifeline to Your Online Business

If you have been grinding away for years at the restaurant or real estate business and have gotten caught up in the day-to-day schedule of getting up, going to work, going through the motions, and then coming home only to spend a few hours with your family before you crash and go to sleep, it is highly likely that you have forgotten about some of the things that make you happy and are of interest to you.

We talked earlier in this site about the importance of finding your passion as an essential element to building a successful online business.  As they say, “If you enjoy what you do you will never have to work a day in your life.”  Being passionate about what you do ensure that you will succeed with an online business.  The other element is choosing a niche for your topic of interest that will be your Unique Selling Proposition and the one thing that attracts a highly targeted market to your product or service.

Choosing a Niche

Starting an online business means re-discovering your passions and interests.  Once you identify what those are it is necessary to drill down a little further to find an area related to your passion that addresses the needs of a highly targeted customer base.  When you identify your passions and interests chances are other people have the same interests and have started a business related to your topic.  This is why it is necessary to drill down and find a niche that makes your business stand out from all of the rest.

For example, if you have a passion for fishing and you are knowledgeable in this area chances are there are some pretty large businesses on the Internet that specialize in fishing.  Fishing is a very broad topic so what you need to do is drill a little deeper into the topic of fishing to find a specialized area of fishing where there is a market looking for a specific topic related to fishing.

For example, if your prospects are typing “fishing” into the search engines you have no idea what they are looking for when it comes to the topic of fishing.  What about fishing?  Are they looking for fishing poles?  Perhaps they are looking for a book on fishing.  Maybe they are looking for good locations for fishing.  You just don’t know.  However, if you drill down into the topic a little further to a subject such as “fly fishing in Seattle Washington” then you have a better idea of what your market is searching for.  Once you research that market further you will get to know their wants and needs and then you can develop a Unique Selling Proposition.

Getting to Know Your Market

Once you have identified your target market there are many resources online that you can use to get to know your market and find out exactly what they are looking for and why.  This takes some time investment but the information you collect will be worth its weight in gold when you go to establish your online business.

You can talk to your market through social networking, distribute surveys, hang out in chat rooms to listen to what people are discussing in relationship to your topic, and review other products related to your subject area.  You can also review other websites that are similar to yours to find out what they are offering and how they are offering it.  Try to determine what is missing and then come up with a unique way to offer it.

So in addition to renewing your passions it is necessary to find something specific that is related to your passion and area of interest. This should be included in your plan for market research and the results should be recorded in your business and marketing plan when you start your online business.   If you are passionate and knowledgeable in your niche this will reflect on your audience and they will be enthusiastic as well.  They will also return to do business with you because the quality tends to be great when you love what you do.

How Online Branding Can Ramp Up Your New Business

If you have already worked for years in the real estate or restaurant business you should be familiar with the importance of establishing a brand people associate with quality.  Branding is no different when you establish an online business only the process of going about establishing your brand online is slightly different than a brick and mortar business.

Although people associate your online business with the design of your website, logo, and other elements that usually define an online business, online branding for your business is more about what you do, what you have to offer, and how you offer it to your targeted audience.  With all of the different businesses that are being established online, your brand will be the one element that makes your business stand out in the online crowd.

Establishing Your Brand Online

With a brick and mortar business there are different ways of getting your brand established which include advertising, networking, and other things that get your brand associated with quality and good service.  When you establish your brand online the process is similar only there are many tools that are available for you to use to help spread the word about your brand and your business.

Establishing your brand begins with deciding what you are going to offer and how you are going to offer it.  It is all about offering something in a different way than businesses that are similar to yours.  This is known as your Unique Selling Proposition (USO) which you are probably already familiar with from doing business offline.  If you are not familiar with it a USP is an extremely important component for establishing your brand online and will be the main selling point that sets you apart from all of the other businesses.

Defining Your Brand

Once you define your brand you can first establish yourself through your website.  The home page of your website is a very powerful and important marketing tool.  Your home page will be the first impression that your visitors see after arriving on your website.  On the average you have about 8 seconds to capture your visitor and tell them what you are all about.

Many website owners make good use of the home page by placing a video of themselves right on the home page that acts as a powerful business card when people arrive on your website. I mean what is more powerful than face to face contact in a world where we generally communicate through typed words? In addition to that, the benefits of doing business with you are clearly visible along with your logo and a clear explanation of what you have to offer.

Getting the Word Out

Once you have made your website the focal point there many other strategies and tools you can use for spreading the word about your new brand and your business.  From doing business offline you know that word of mouth advertising can be a powerful way to get new referrals and get your brand noticed.  This concept of advertising is no different when it comes to the Internet only the nice part is that is easier and more cost effective to get the word out online than it is in the offline world.

In the online environment you can spread the word through a technique which is known as viral marketing.  When you establish your online business viral marketing will be your arsenal of tools for establishing your brand on the Internet.  Although viral marketing sounds like an illness well actually….it is….but in a good way.

Viral marketing spreads the word through the use of a series of tools most of which are free to use.  Some of the tools that are used for viral marketing include social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, article marketing sites such as Ezine Articles and Submit Your Article, video networking sites such as YouTube and Viddle, social bookmarking sites such as Digg, and general networking sites such as Squidoo and others.

When you put these sites to good use for your business people will begin to create a buzz about your new online business and your brand. If you stay dedicated to using these tools consistently the word will spread like wildfire about your business.  One of the really cool things about all of these tools is they provide easy ways for people to share high quality content with their friends and fellow business professionals.

If they see something good they will willingly share the content with others who have the same interests by simply clicking on widgets that are provided by these sites which allow you to automatically forward the information with others.  This is whole lot different than the brick and mortar world where it takes a lot more time to spread the word and get referrals.

Digg: Just a Bookmark?

If you are starting an online business you may want to check out the social networking site called Digg.  Digg is more than just a social bookmarking site and if you play your cards right it can potentially send 150,000 visitors to your website or blog within a very short period of time in addition to building a strong network of clients.

To participate in Digg you have become a member of the community just as you would on other social networking sites.  It also requires an investment of your time if you are going to become a respected community member and win the trust and confidence of other people in the Digg community.

How Digg Works

In addition to using Digg as a social bookmarking site you can also submit articles to Digg that are related to your area of expertise.  The website is moderated and if the other users of the site like your content they will simply vote on it and Digg it.  The more people you have that Digg your article the higher the rankings it will receive.

You can set up an account with Digg for free and set up a professional profile as you would on other social networking sites.  It is best to begin by getting involved with the Digg community and networking with others that share the same interests as you.  Take the time to get to know the community and when you are ready to share your expertise you simply click on “Submit a Story” and share what you have to offer.

If you succeed in writing an article that people really Digg a lot, the article will make its way to the home page of Digg which will generate a significant amount of traffic to your blog or website within a relatively short period of time.  This is known on Digg as the “Digg Effect” and is the highest compliment you can receive on the site.

You can also submit articles by using a Digg Bookmarklet which is a link that you can place on the toolbar of your browser which provides an easy way for you to submit your content to the Digg website.  As an added tip, make sure that you Digg the posts from the top 100 users and posts that other users submit, add them as friends, and support what they do.  In return this will help you to receive Diggs when you submit articles and new posts.

Digg and Networking

Just like other social networking sites you can also develop a community of followers that will help to spread the word about your brand and you can communicate with your network of friends by commenting on content that they have to offer.  This process is known as offering “shouts.”  This is always a good idea since the idea is to network with others and to acknowledge what they have to offer otherwise, you could potentially get a reputation for using Digg for your own self serving reasons.

If you own a website you can also keep in touch with the Digg community by placing a Digg button on your website.  When the latest posts and news are placed on Digg they will automatically appear on your website.  The Digg button also provides your visitors with a way to Digg your most recent posts.

Mind Your Manners

Just like other social networking sites it is important for you to become familiar with how the site works and how the community interacts before you can expect others to create a buzz about your brand and area of expertise.  If you invest the time to get to know others in the community you will reap the rewards that come with caring about what others have to offer.

With an Online Business You Are Always Learning and Always Earning

online business modelIt is not difficult to burn out in your work if you are constantly facing the same thing day in and day out. This is the reason a lot of people refer to it as the 9 to 5 grind because that is exactly what you do. Some of the jobs are so mind numbing that they can make you forget what you are passionate about and they stunt your growth so to speak because you are not allowed to be creative or learn new things.

If this sounds familiar you may be suffering from job burnout and you are coming to a crossroads where it is time to make a change. The trouble is you are probably wondering which way to turn because looking for another job may seem like jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

There is an answer which will put you in a position where you can renew your energy and create a stimulating environment where you are always learning and always earning and the solution is starting an online business. Although it took some time for business owners to see an online business model as viable and the internet as a tool for doing business, in the last few years ecommerce has exploded and it is showing no signs of slowing down.

In fact, online business models have progressed so quickly that when you establish an online business you have no choice but to be continually learning about the new techniques that are coming out as well as how to leverage the new tools to keep your business running in profit. What’s more is you will be able to earn money 24/7 because your website is always open for people to shop at their convenience.

Let’s use a few examples to show you how you are always learning and always earning with an online business.

Online Business Model: Your Product or Service

Once you choose your niche product or service you will always be learning about the newest developments in your niche as well as how to offer your product as a quality brand. If you are passionate about your product or service and enjoy what you do this can be a very rewarding and intellectually stimulating experience.

Online Business Model: Your Market

Part of always learning and always earning is getting to know your target market and some of the problems they are trying to solve. The Internet provides many tools for reaching your market and getting to know how they think and what they want. With an online business knowing your market is always an ongoing learning experience because the variables inevitably will change during the life of your business. The more you learn about your market the more you will earn.

Online Business Model: Running The Operation

Although having previous business experience in the brick and mortar world is beneficial to starting an online business you would be surprised to discover how many people have started an online business without any previous experience and become a huge success with the business. Regardless of whether you have previous experience or not the details that are associated with running an online business will always be a learning curve especially with new and emerging technologies that are being used in the online business world.

Web 2.0 Marketing

Web 2.0 marketing is the new age of Internet marketing that incorporates the latest tools for marketing your online business such as social media, video marketing, viral marketing, and mobile marketing. Years ago these types of tools were virtually unknown which means online business owners had to learn how to leverage these tools to their advantage when promoting their business in the Web 2.0 marketing environment.

Web strategists are already discussing what Web 3.0 will bring which means another learning curve for online business owners in their discovery of new tools and techniques for online business promotion.

Always Earning

The nice part about an online business is there are so many tools you can use for setting up multiple streams of income. When it comes to income the sky is the limit if you remain dedicated and consistent to your business goals and objectives. This means that you can potentially be earning income around the clock while you are learning new ways to do things as well as keeping up with the latest trends related to your product or service.

So if you are tired and burned out with the job grind an online business may be just what you need to revitalize your intellect and create the lifestyle you want. At the very least it is worth your time to consider starting an online business instead of jumping into yet another mind numbing job that is going to lead you down yet another dead end road.

It Pays To Be Aware: What You Don’t Know Can Cost You!

If you are completely new to setting up an online business it is important for you to be aware of some opportunities that make their money off of the lack of experience and knowledge of people who are new and trying to break into making money online.

Sometimes people who are new to Internet marketing are unaware of what the costs are for setting up an online business as well as how easy quality expertise is available when you search for the Internet for advice on how to set up an online business. Some of the savvy Internet marketers know this and while most of them are straightforward and honest about what they offer there are also the ones that will try to profit unjustly from this lack of knowledge of newbie online business owners

For this reason it is worth taking a look at the Stores Online opportunity.

How Stores Online Works

Stores Online is an operation that assists people with setting up an online business by offering a shortcut method for setting up a website online. The company offers a package deal for setting up a website that is accompanied by a series of training sessions, conferences, and workshops. You also have the opportunity to ask a host of questions about setting up your business online as well as address any concerns you have related to your online business.

The company advertises online and through direct mail by distributing postcards that invite you to attend a one-day session at your local conference center in your community and they draw you in by offering a free lunch. While all of this sounds good what you find out when you get there is that you have to pay out a significant amount of money to attend an additional intensive one-day workshop and then there is a high pressure sales pitch to invest a huge sum of around $5000 to get started. What’s more is there is a contract with a lot of fine details and once you are committed there are a lot of hidden fees beyond the amount that you initially pay to get started.

The mentoring is completed over the phone and basically they set you up with a cookie cutter website that is difficult to maintain and navigate and you end up learning and losing a lot through trial and error. If you happen to know how to build a website they will not allow you to host it. Instead you have to go through their system.

What happens with this program is the people who do not have any idea what it takes to set up a business online end up paying out a lot more money than the average startup business simply because they do not know any better. Someone who is well seasoned or has any type of Internet marketing knows that you can establish yourself online with very little startup costs. You can also seek the advice of experienced Internet marketers for much less without being locked into a contract with a lot of hidden fees.

It Pays to Be Aware

Stores Online is one example of companies that profit from the knowledge that aspiring online entrepreneurs lack when it comes to setting up a business online. While there are a handful of people that seemed to be able to make this program work, if you Google this opportunity under scams unfortunately you will find that the negative experiences outnumber the positive ones.

We are telling you this as a new online marketer not to continually bash opportunities but instead to help you be aware of some of the opportunities that may seem to be the answer but when you delve a little deeper you find yourself in a quagmire of deceit. If you know how they work you can better protect yourself and get a healthy start for your new online business.

The Convenience of Using Skype in Your Online Business

If you are looking to cut the costs on your business overhead there is a service available online called Skype that will help you to drastically reduce your telephone bills while adding convenience to the way you conduct online business on a daily basis.

If you are not already familiar with Skype it is an online service that allows you to make calls over the Internet which is also known as VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). Skype is a really nifty service that offers free calls to anyone in the world that has a Skype account and allows you to make calls to landlines and cell phones for a very low monthly fee.

Skype offers a series of different types of plans which are both free and paid depending upon the type of services you choose. For as little as $9.99 per month for the basic plan you can make unlimited calls anywhere in the world and to any type of phone completely over the Internet.

How Skype Works

You can use Skype with any computer that has access to a high speed Internet connection as long as the computer is equipped with a microphone or you have a headset that is equipped with a mouthpiece. If you do not have this equipment you can pick up a headset for as little $20.00 and plug it into the USB port of your PC and you are instantly up and running.

If you want to ditch your landline phone and make all calls through Skype, no problem. Simply get involved with the SkypeIn service and you can register your own cell phone number and when your clients call that number you can pick it up over your PC through Skype. Heck…. you can even make calls via a USB Skype Mouse which allows you to make calls over your PC. This cool device comes equipped with a keypad and mini LCD screen to display your contact list and the caller ID feature.

And that’s not all! For just a little more than $9.99 each month you can make unlimited calls worldwide as well as choose your own phone number which your prospects can call and you can answer on your own computer. It’s awesome!

You can also configure Skype so the calls can be forwarded to your cell phone or your landline phone if you prefer. You can also enjoy added services such as caller ID, voice mail, and chatting face to face if your computer is equipped with a Web cam.

Another nice part about Skype is that if you own a little netbook with a Web cam or even a regular size laptop, you can talk on the phone at any time and any place as long as you have high speed Internet access. With all of the public access points becoming available this is super convenient to use without the high priced phone bill.

What About Call Quality?

A lot of people that are thinking about using Skype ask this question. The good news is the sound quality of Skype calls completely surpasses a landline phone and most cell phones. As long as you have a high speed Internet connection the sound quality is extremely clear even halfway across the world. What’s also nice about the quality is you can adjust the volume of the call to a level you desire which is often not the case with a landline or cell phone.

Skype is a “No Brainer”

If you take the time to look at all of the great things that Skype has to offer it appears to be a “no brainer” when it comes to cutting the costs of your telephone bill and reducing business overhead. It is jammed with great features that offer more than a conventional landline and what’s more is it allows you flexibility and mobility in one easy to use interface.

The Two Faces of Facebook

The Two Faces of Facebook: Use of Personal Profile and Business Pages
Although Facebook was originally established as a website for college students to connect, it eventually branched out to high school students, and currently it is a popular social networking tool for business owners and professionals from many different industries.

If you are starting an online business and are under the impression that Facebook is for the young crowd, think again because Facebook is a very useful tool for getting yourself established as an expert in your field and developing a client base that shares the same interests as you do.

The Two Sides of Facebook

Facebook offers the opportunity to establish a personal side and business side. If you are trying to establish yourself as a business professional and get your brand associated with quality, it is very important to achieve a good balance between your personal profile and your business profile. For example, if your personal profile is full of things like what you had for lunch or pictures of your latest Saturday night party it is time to clean up your act.

Instead you should be creating a professional image across the board in both your personal and business profile that will help you establish mutual and trusting relationships with the potential clients for your business. Whenever you post anything about yourself on Facebook you should do it with your business clients in mind. Here are a few tips on how to create a professional image for both your personal and business profile on Facebook.

§ Create a Professional Username: For your personal profile it is a good idea to use your full name so people begin to associate your name with the professional brand that you establish. For example, a username such as “party2night” will not exactly get you established as a professional and people will most likely not take you seriously when you try to offer expertise that is related to your business. If you are establishing a business page you can also use your full name or perhaps the name of your business which will tell people exactly what you are all about.

§ Complete the Profile: The Facebook profile provides you with a great opportunity to create a polished professional image. Think about your potential client when you fill out your profile. As you fill out the profile ask yourself, “Is there something you don’t want them to see?” Then don’t include it in your profile. Then ask yourself, “What do I want them to see?” Use this as your guide to add appropriate information to your profile.

Also, include most of your important business information on the home page. This is information that you want to emphasize such as the benefits your client will receive by working with you, your area of expertise, or the type of clients you work with.

§ Choose Your Photo Wisely: Use a photo that provides a balance between informal and too formal. You want people to feel like they can approach and connect with you however, you do not want to be so informal that they fail to see you as a professional who is knowledgeable in their field of expertise.

§ Use Profile and Privacy Settings: Facebook provides a way for you to limit your profile and privacy settings on a per user basis. Be sure to show enough of your profile to let people know what you do and then set the privacy settings so you can control what people can see. For example, if you do not know someone that well you can limit what they see in your Facebook profile.

Finally, always come across as professional in all of your Facebook communications and avoid hard selling. If people see you as knowledgeable and trustworthy, the sale will come later. On the other hand, if you engage in hard selling people will most likely see you as self serving and you will lose them rather quickly. The purpose of Facebook is to establish relationships with your clients, which is what social networking is all about in the first place. Use this tool wisely and it will come back to you tenfold with long term results for your online business.

Respectfully Dedicated To Your Success!!

Twitter, The Power Is In the Ability to Integrate & Automate

If you have never used Twitter for your online business you will be surprised to find that there is a lot of power behind 140 character messages.
