Decide on the type of work from home opportunity. Will you work for someone else and simply telecommute, or will you work for yourself? If working for yourself, will you start a small business, start a “downline” on a multi-level marketing company, or invest in a franchise? Before deciding on which opportunity you want to pursue, consider your talents. Each of the above mentioned provides work from home conveniences. However, there are some key differences.
For example, with starting a small business, you are in charge of designing everything from a product / business to market to the name and logo of your business. Yes, you have tons of freedom here, but you also have to be able to make quick, responsible decisions. Multi-level marketing opportunities provide the convenience of working from home and making own hours, while working under for a company. As a result, you get to choose when you work and how long and how hard, and you do not have to come up with products to sell or the legalities of the company. Those are already established. However, because MLMs require a long “downline” before making money, these types of businesses may take a little bit longer to get going. Last, being a franchise owner can give one great benefits, otherwise not attainable. While franchises require the largest initial investment, they typically bring back the most revenue. Of course, there is no guarantee of that, but they have more evidence to back up their profits. Yes, you do have to have the restaurants paid off, but once those are paid, individuals typically begin making fairly large sums of money. Comparatively, small businesses don’t require that large of an investment, but they’re also not as established as franchise names like McDonald’s or KFC. These companies have provided viable services for over 50 years for many of them.
Once you’ve decided how you will work from home, consider the conveniences, which are most important to you. Can working from home for someone else provide you with those conveniences?
By this I mean, if you have a boss that micromanages you by calling every 15 minutes, would you not be better off either a) working from the office or b) finding a new career under yourself or for someone else?
Maybe you have a tendency to get overwhelmed by all of the tasks laid out before you. Perhaps, you would do better with a work from home opportunity that requires more structure (i.e. working for someone else who checks in each day or sets deadlines at the end of the day versus starting your own company or picking up an MLM opportunity).
The great thing about working from home is that the possibilities are endless. In every industry, there is some field or path, which can be worked from home. With each opportunity, individuals can tweak the little details to cater to their personal needs. Again, there are numerous working from home opportunities if individuals will take the time to research it out.
